It was a little grey and cloudy for most of the trip and with about 15 minutes left before the bus was scheduled to leave the sun peaked out and hit the mountains in the distance, painting them a spectacular gold colour.
I haven't had much of a chance to take photos for the last few months as I had been preparing for my first marathon. Last weekend was the race in Las Vegas, and while I didn't fare so well running I was able to get out with my camera. On the Saturday my friend and I took a day trip out to the Hoover Dam.

One of the highlights was whale watching with my cousin and her family. We were fortunate enough to have two curious whales come to the boat to put on a show for over 20 minutes. After that, we went to Bird Island to see the Puffins. The island is home to millons of seabirds.
My aunt was gracious enough to loan me her car one day. I spent the time driving along Conception Bay highway exploring every back road I could find. I finished the day in Brigus, another old, historic fishing village. The Brigus photos are some of my first attempts at HDR photography.
After a few days in St. John's, I went to my aunt's cabin in Harbour Main. Despite having a few drinks the night before, I managed to get early enough on the Saturday morning to catch the sunrise. Just after the sun came up a bank of fog come rolling over the town, through the harbour and out to sea.
I spent a day walking around St. John's - starting at the top of Signal Hill, around the trail and through The Battery. After winding up downtown, I wandered around for the day, ending up in the small fishing village of Quidi Vidi.
I recently travelled to Newfoundland to visit some family and take lots of pictures. My first full day on the island was gray and foggy so it was hard to get any landscape shots. My aunt took me on a tour of the area north of St. John's into Torbay and Middle Cove, followed by a trip out to Petty Harbour.
I haven't focused much on photography lately due to other commitments, but now that the warmer weather is here I had to take advantage of it. I got up ridiculously early Saturday morning morning to catch the sunrise by Fifty Point Conservation area. As I was driving there, I thought it was going to be a quiet morning by myself on the beach. Apparently twenty other people had the same idea, as there were already a dozen cars when I pulled in.
I have been interested in practicing long exposures with my neutral density filters and the old piers were perfect for what I had in mind. As a Christmas present to myself I picked up a new lens - the 50mm Nikkor F/1.8D. With the time of year it wasn't long before I got to try it out with my two favourite models.
I haven't had much opportunity to get out and shoot lately, so this past weekend I made a point of exploring some more of the waterfalls in the Hamilton area. It was a bit of a challenge to get the bottom and came a little close to falling in at times, but I managed to get a couple of decent shots.
